ACULIP H TABLET is a combination of Amitriptyline and Chlordiazepoxide which belongs to the group of medicines called Tricyclic antidepressants and Benzodiazepines respectively. It is used to manage moderate to severe depression and anxiety in adults.
It is not recommended to take ACULIP H TABLET if you have severe liver disease, breathing difficulties while awake or asleep, myasthenia gravis (a condition in which the muscles become weak and tire easily), psychiatric illness or a personality disorder (severe mental problems) and spinal or cerebral ataxia (balance issues).
Before taking ACULIP H TABLET inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart and lung diseases. ACULIP H TABLET should be taken with caution if you suffer from depression, having or had a history of mental illness, having drug or alcohol abuse, having a decrease in mental function. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking ACULIP H TABLET.
It is not recommended to take ACULIP H TABLET in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. This medicine should be taken only under medical supervision as there is a chance of developing addiction, dependence and withdrawal reactions while using this medicine.
The most common side effects of taking ACULIP H TABLET are dry mouth, drowsiness, headache, bloating, constipation and tiredness. Talk to your doctor if any of these worsen or doesn’t improve.

HOW ACULIP H TABLET WORKS
ACULIP H TABLET contains amitriptyline and chlordiazepoxide, which acts on the central nervous system and relieves the symptoms of depression and anxiety by increasing the levels of certain chemicals in the brain. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that raises the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, which improves mood. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine medicine that works by increasing the action of GABA that suppresses the excessive and abnormal activity of the nerve cells in the brain.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ACULIP H TABLET exactly as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water preferably after meals. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of the management based on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Do not stop taking ACULIP H TABLET without doctor’s advice as it may lead to withdrawal reactions such as irritability, restlessness, tremors, etc.

Stop taking ACULIP H TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- shallow breathing, stoppage of breathing
- excessive sleeping
- nerve disturbances
- acute glaucoma (increased pressure inside eyes)
- chest pain with breathing difficulty (cardiomyopathy)
- inflammation of lungs
- anxiety, sleep disorders, insomnia, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation
- memory loss, hallucinations, dependence, depression, stress, restlessness, agitation, irritability, aggression, delusion, nightmares, changes in salivation, changes in the way you walk and muscle weakness
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dry mouth:
Sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Bloating
Eat a balanced diet. Avoid consumption of alcohol. Reduce the intake of spicy food. Drink plenty of water and other fluids to stay hydrated. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Constipation
Try to eat more high-fiber foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals and drink plenty of water. If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate management for constipation.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
ACULIP H TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy only if considered clearly necessary. Taking ACULIP H TABLET in late stages of pregnancy may result in respiratory depression, lethargy, decreased muscle tone and withdrawal symptoms (hyperreflexia, irritability, restlessness, tremors, inconsolable crying and feeding difficulties) in newborn babies. Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.

BREASTFEEDING
ACULIP H TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness, sedation, reduction in mental alertness after taking ACULIP H TABLET.

ALCOHOL
Avoid alcohol consumption while taking ACULIP H TABLET as it may increase the risk of side effects such as sedation and CNS depression. Before taking ACULIP H TABLET inform your doctor if you are having alcohol addiction or abuse.

KIDNEY
ACULIP H TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.

LIVER
It is not recommended to take ACULIP H TABLET if you have severe liver disease. It should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.

ALLERGY
Do not take ACULIP H TABLET if you are allergic to Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide or any other ingredients in this medicine.

LUNGS
It is not recommended to take ACULIP H TABLET if you have lung disease or you have breathing difficulties while awake or asleep. Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.

HEART DISEASE

ACULIP H TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have myasthenia gravis (a condition in which the muscles become weak and tire easily)

Before taking ACULIP H TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have a personal or family history of suicide, bipolar disorder or depression
- electrolyte disturbances
- have convulsive disorders
- have urinary disorders or prostatic hypertrophy
- have hyperthyroidism
- have pylorus stenosis and paralytic ileus
- have symptoms of paranoid
- history of drug addiction
- eye diseases
- have schedule for any planned surgery
- receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT- management to relieve symptoms of mental disturbances)
Use in paediatrics
ACULIP H TABLET is not recommended to be given for children and adolescents below 18 years of age due to the lack of safety data. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
ACULIP H TABLET should be taken with caution in elderly patients due to the risk of developing ataxia, oversedation, confusion or anticholinergic effects (such as dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, bowel obstruction, dilated pupils, blurred vision, increased heart rate and decreased sweating). Consult your doctor before taking ACULIP H TABLET.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking ACULIP H TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- topiramate (medicine used to manage fits)
- opioids (medicines used to relieve pain Ex. morphine, codeine)
- quinidine (used to manage malaria)
- cimetidine (used to manage acidity and stomach ulcer)
- phenothiazines (medicines used to manage mental disorders Ex. chlorpromazine, fluphenazine)
- antiarrhythmic medicines (medicines used to manage heart diseases Ex. propafenone and flecainide)
- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (medicines used to manage depression Ex. fluoxetine, sertraline and paroxetine)
- tranylcypromine (used to manage depression)
- selegiline (medicine used to manage parkinson’s disease)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of ACULIP H TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of ACULIP H TABLET includes confusion, disturbed concentration, transient visual hallucinations, dilated pupils, agitation, hyperactive reflexes, stupor (insensibility), drowsiness, muscle rigidity, vomiting, hypothermia, hyperpyrexia and respiratory depression (in severe cases), fits, fall in blood pressure and coma.
